HPU 260 Cardiac Care (Inpatient) Unit – CCU describes the operational, functional and design requirements for the support, monitoring and treatment of patients requiring critical care for emergency and acute cardiac conditions.
An updated revision of HPU 260 Cardiac Care (Inpatient) Unit (Revision 8, July 2023) has been uploaded. The revised version has been informed by an extensive consultation process with clinical, operational and technical experts.
Key changes to the document include:
- Update to the title to avoid confusion with HPU 170 Cardiac Investigations Unit.
- Updated information relating to contemporary models of care, common cardiac diagnoses managed within CCUs and anticipated future trends.
- Updated information relating to dialysis requirements.
- Inclusion of key considerations relating to bedside monitoring and telemetry including new technologies.
- Enhanced information relating to Information Communications and Technology requirements.
- Updated information relating to interior design strategies to improve the patient and staff experience.
- General updates to the SOA to reflect contemporary practice, benchmarking to recently delivered facilities, and the associated revised standard components.
- Adjustments to the SOA including provision of a negative pressure isolation room, optional procedure room and point of care testing bay, and updates to the CCU staff station to ensure sufficient space for central monitors, printing devices and accessories.
